Payal’s paper “Metabolically activated adipose tissue macrophages link obesity to triple-negative breast cancer” was just published in Journal of Experimental Medicine! The paper is a great showcase of her thesis project.

Students and faculty members enjoyed the a cappella concert last Friday by the Histones group. The last song was dedicated to Ali, the founder of the Histones. We will truly miss him when he graduates!
Highlights from the concert:
Huge CONGRATULATIONS to Ali for becoming a doctor! His thesis defense, titled “Discovery of anti-metastatic therapies guided by the physiological suppressor Raf Kinase Inhibitory Protein”, was attended by professors, friends, and family. Ali’s thesis defense went through smoothly this morning, with several jokes, funny stories, and a very moving acknowledgement. The event included talks from current honors students and distinguished College alumni who have gone to become leaders in their field of interest, followed by a poster session and reception. We had a great time at AACR. Payal gave a symposium on metabolically activated macrophages. Ali and Jiyoung both gave poster presentations. We also seized this opportunity to meet with some longtime friends and colleagues.
Faculty and students at the BSD enjoyed a wonderful a cappella concert by the Histones, our in-house a cappella group. This year’s performance also featured Pritzker’s a cappella group “Say Aah”. Ali is the founder of Histones.
